ABSTRACT

The linear model of consumption has been the norm since industrialisation. The goal has been to produce as many products as possible with very little regard for the consequences which occur at each step: taking natural resources, making the product through processing and manufacturing, using, or consuming the product, and finally disposing of the product – waste and environmental impacts. As we enter the next era of industrialisation, following the digital revolution, we must look to doing more than trying to sustain the practices that started centuries ago surrounding consumption and waste and instead, look toward reimagining our practices to help rejuvenate the planet and start a new revolution. Here we show you how you can achieve a circular model of consumption for the products that already exist as well as new products being produced. Looking to nature, cultural practices, and history for this circular model of living is the cheat sheet to rejuvenating our planet.
