ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of part V of this book. The book samples recent progress in one country, the United Kingdom (UK), at national, regional and local levels. The host country is the obvious choice, not because progress is more marked there but because information on developments is more accessible due to many of the individuals concerned being in close and regular contact through meetings, conferences and joint tasks. While developments in school health education in the c may appear to be impressive, there is still much to be done, since only about half of the local education authorities are fully committed to the national Schools Health Education Project and an even smaller proportion of the nation’s schools. At government level there is no declared national policy on school health education such as exists in The Netherlands.
