ABSTRACT

Two kinds of evaluation, formative and summative, have been undertaken. Formative evaluation has been conducted to assess the acceptability of projects to teachers, pupils. Summative evaluation to assess the effects of projects in their final form has also been carried out in respect of certain developments. This chapter describes Health Education Council's (HEC’s) involvement, the contributions of other national bodies, project teams, local education authorities (LEAs), District Health Authorities, and individual advisers, health Education Officers and teachers greatly exceed HEC’s in sheer volume. The importance of demonstrating acceptability at local level before commencing national development has been shown by the success of two more recent HEC-funded projects, Active Tutorial Work (ATW) and the ‘My Body’ project. ATW success within Lancashire as a vehicle for the introduction of non-didactic methods led HEC to hold a national conference for LEA advisers in 1979 devoted to the ATW project.
