Multiple sclerosis (M.S.) is at the same time one of the more unpleasant and one of the most fascinating chronic disorders of the central nervous system; unpleasant because it can and does, although not inevitably, cause disablement even among young adults; fascinating because of the many tantalizing clues which hint at, but do not prove its cause.
