ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 public health crisis and subsequent lockdown have seen an increase in domestic violence globally forcing the UN Women to recognise it as a shadow pandemic. The pandemic gives an opportunity to understand reasons, consequences, and strategies of countering rise in violence in the domestic sphere. The question to ask is whether crisis situations lead to increase in everyday, ordinary gendered violations. This chapter will not only assess how the home is re-configured during these times but also suggest that this crisis is an opportunity to reimagine the multiple meanings of the home, which became an important sociological as well as governance site through the COVID-19 times.
