ABSTRACT

One of the worst casualties of the pandemic in India was its education system. While the country adopted the online education system after the closure of educational institutions, lack of adequate facilities for this posed serious challenges among students from the marginalised groups. Online education also created more challenges for the female students and teachers underscoring a “gender divide”. This chapter sheds light on these and other adversities that the online education posed and its possible adverse consequences emphasising the need for urgent government intervention. The chapter also identifies the potentialities of online education and argues that these need to be explored to expand the scope of our education system keeping in mind the principle of non-discrimination.
