ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to examine initiatives aimed at fostering home–school connections and relationships in different contexts, from differing perspective. We employ the bio-ecological model developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner and sociologist Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of culture, doxa, field, and habitus in this examination. Using various search techniques and resources, we identified five initiatives with different foci, involving a range of participants, and representing different geographical areas and socio-cultural groups. We then review each of the initiatives and discuss them through the lenses of the theoretical framework, suggesting implications for policy, practice, and research.
