ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the growing engagement between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) within the broader contexts of the regional security complex theory: the UAE's regional aspirations and India's search for pragmatic foreign policy, along with the prospects for economic growth, security and newer channels of diplomacy. It analyses the strategic shift of bilateral relations into newer ventures, reinforced by the visionary leadership and a series of political events unfurling in the Middle East. The chapter deliberates on the need to advance India-UAE bilateral relations into regional and multi-lateral collaborations for addressing threat perceptions, security challenges and achieving political and economic benefits for the long term.
