ABSTRACT

Misinformation has been at the center of media literacy education conversations for the better part of the last decade. These conversations have increased as large-scale social networks and ubiquitous platforms have become more central to the information and communication routines of daily life. In the wake of the COVID-19, the World Health Organization coined the term infodemic to address the false and misleading information that is promoting false and harmful information about public health and responses to COVID. This essay introduces these trends and the response that media educators, practitioners and stakeholders are pursuing to better educate and prepare people to navigate global infodemics.
