ABSTRACT

With the increased attention on the effects of the spread of mis- and disinformation on unfiltered information channels, calls have been made for greater training in the area of information and media literacy. Libraries offer some of the most promising routes outside of schools to provide this kind of training, and librarians show great interest in learning more. The following chapter presents a case study of the development and implementation of a recent summer institute style-training workshop in news media literacy for librarians in Ohio. The course was held online due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter details the workshop’s structure and intended outcomes along with providing insights on how educators and libraries can work together to continue training in media literacy for both library staff and patrons.
