ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to discuss how the Brazilian educational system reacted to the social distancing imposed by SARS COV-19 and its effects on teaching digital literacy. The pandemic forced the educational system to move its activities online. Even though digital technologies for information and communication were considered the most viable solution, a large part of the population does not have access to the internet. As part of our research, 113 K12 teachers were invited to answer a questionnaire for this study. The data collected revealed that many teachers started using different media to work with their students. Teachers showed no objections to using information and communication technology (ICT) as a pedagogic device, but the lack of adequate means to access the internet in the communities became a serious hindrance. The results confirmed the dire necessity for structural changes in the Brazilian educational system.
