ABSTRACT

The pandemic revealed long-standing inequities and digital disparities that hit underprivileged families hardest. Along with many obstacles, there were opportunities as technology became an essential tool for communicating, connecting, and strengthening relationships. Early childhood educators gained digital skills, became more intentional about integrating technology tools for teaching, adapted proven teaching strategies, and developed new pedagogical approaches for classroom, hybrid, and at-home learning. They implemented technology-mediated family engagement strategies to empower parents and engage families. They became media mentors and role models for media literacy for young children and families. Technology integration beyond the pandemic should be informed by what was lost and build upon what was gained.
