ABSTRACT

In Mexico, the Covid-19 pandemic led to 250,000 schools being shut across the nation. As a result, education in public schools has changed dramatically. While private schools are attempting to solve their issues with e-learning with remote teaching on digital platforms, the public school system relies on public and commercial television, radio, and teachers with different levels of digital access and competencies. This chapter discusses Aprendeen casa II (Learning at Home II), an educational television program developed by the Mexican government during the Covid-19 pandemic. The analytical example is taken from the factual television format, transmitted through open-air channels of Televisa, TV Azteca, Imagen (three major TV corporations), and the public television channel—Canal Once. Aprendeen casa II is seen as the government TV model to respond to a particular historical conjuncture—a coming together of technological and educational resources and broader health, cultural, and political developments.
