ABSTRACT

Among the corollaries of the high media consumption recorded during the Covid -19 pandemic were hate speech against fragile communities and misinformation about the disease. To this end, certain measures have been taken by public authorities not only to deal with the health crisis but also to eradicate media practices that endanger the population. EDUK-MEDIA’s responses to these multifaceted crises in support of the government were mainly aimed at emphasizing media and information literacy (MIL) to contain the infodemic and hate speech and promote cyber citizenship. This involved restructuring action strategies to focus more on themes of misinformation and online hate speech. These actions included awareness campaigns and workshop training for parents on responsible parenting in the digital age and training for Civil Society Organization (CSO) leaders in the fight against misinformation and online hate speech. Although the digital divide is still a real challenge, the coverage of EDUK-MEDIA’s online activities was greater than that of its face-to-face activities.
