ABSTRACT

The inclusion of Northeast India as a domestic component in India's ‘Look East Policy’ has often been referred to as looking east through northeast. Northeast India’s geographical positioning along with its cultural linkages and ethnic affinities seems to have been important factors that have led to the region being included in India’s Look East Policy. Connectivity, development, economic growth, alleviating regional disparities, and infrastructure development projects have all contributed towards India’s efforts of forging closer relationships with countries in the East and more particularly with ASEAN countries. In this entry, the focus is to examine how the inclusion of Northeast India has the potential to revive its centuries-old relationship with Southeast Asian countries.
