ABSTRACT

‘Medical mission’ is a term used, though not exclusively, for Christian missionary endeavours that involved the administration of medical treatment. Studies on Christianity in Northeast India, despite an impressive number of publications, have not given adequate attention to medical service of Christian missions. The official histories of Christian missions in the region also provide little information on health care. More attention was focused on understanding the establishment and growth of the missions, conversion narratives, and mission’s contribution to the uplift of the people in providing education and other literary activities. Even the more recent histories of Christianity have all but passed in reference the tremendous contribution of the missions to health care. There is tremendous potential for making comprehensive studies on this genre of research on Christian Missions in Northeast India.
