ABSTRACT

As an important employer of a diverse multicultural workforce, the Canadian hospitality sector provides a useful example of emerging best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) management. This chapter provides an overview of DEI in Canada from a variety of perspectives, with a focus on human resources in the sector. The purpose is to: 1) explain the Canadian context and describe the legislative and regulatory environment; 2) identify DEI best practices (including a case study); 3) outline how equity-deserving groups are faring; and 4) highlight post-pandemic opportunities for the hospitality sector to embrace DEI management practices, including directions for future research.
