ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the functioning of sustainable waste management in COVID-19 circumstances and to propose solutions for a waste management system that would prevent or mitigate crises in terms of adverse environmental impact. From the point of view of epidemiological issues and work safety, the need to supervise medical waste management is one of the main reasons for the use of a special management system for this group of waste, especially in the current state of COVID-19 threat. The waste management system in Poland functions in accordance with the EU strategy of sustainable development. The objectives of sustainable development of the economy and societies focus on the circular economy, in which the waste management system plays a key role. The collection criteria are presented here: Other regulations regarding the collection process are as follows: Pursuant to the Act on waste, in some cases temporary storage of waste is required prior to its transportation, recovery or disposal.
