ABSTRACT

The authors both got cancer within a year of each other – fuck you, cancer – and for the same and also for different reasons, it left us both feeling lost. Lost because they did not know who these sick women with cancer were and lost because we didn’t want to know them. Lost creatively because we felt our creative practice had been stifled – Chris because the paints she used in her artwork are known carcinogens, and she because of her acute realisation that she was addicted to work: to the admin, meetings and committees that all took her away from writing and teaching and left her feeling empty and purposeless. And lost because they didn’t know the way back.
