ABSTRACT

In the gallery there is an installation that consists of a sequence of floor-to-ceiling painted silk panels, surrounded by knitted sculptures and animations. The exhibition begins with the elderly women who feature in Gustave Klimt’s painting, The Three Ages of Women. Talbot uses her installation to transform the depiction of Klimt’s older woman from a woman shamed by her age, her lack of fertility, her redundancy in a world of men, to a heroine – a wise and wild woman who is the protagonist of a new story more reflective of our age. A woman who rails against the problems caused by capitalism, patriarchy, ecological disaster, rapid technological innovation and sprawling urbanization that have left the earth scorched and polluted.
