ABSTRACT

The brick kiln industry is one of the major labour-intensive industries that employ seasonal migrants in large numbers. This migration is distress driven as poor, underprivileged and debt-ridden households of arid and semi-arid regions flock to brickkilns as the only source of livelihood after the failure of agriculture. This study aims to examine the mental health disorders prevailing among brick kiln migrant workers. The primary data was collected from 301 households from Balangir district of western Odisha, one of the major source areas of labourers migrating to southern Indian cities. The study concludes that most of the respondents had poor mental health conditions.
