ABSTRACT

Migration within or across the borders remains a key feature throughout human history and is an important livelihood strategy. While the well-off migrate with good opportunities for further development within or across the nations, the poor migrate in search of securing basic livelihoods. Securing health and access to healthcare is one of the major challenges to poor migrants. While infectious diseases, occupational injuries are common, the labour migrants are at the risk of developing non-communicable diseases. The current COVID-19 situation exposed the dire need of migrants for moving forward with various economic activities. This chapter reviews the health status of poor migrants and highlights the need for migrant-inclusive policy.
