ABSTRACT

At the organizational level, we argue that resilience capacity is comprised of cognitive resilience, behavioural resilience, and contextual resilience. Other scholars have added attributes that govern system dynamics and financial resources to the mix. Resilience capacity encompasses the cognitive, behavioural, and contextual capabilities that enable members to individually and collectively recognise, acknowledge, and effectively interpret or understand an adverse situation, figure out how to respond in a way that meets or resolves the immediate challenge, act to implement the response, and enables the individual or system to thrive in the future. While resilience capacity includes several individual and collective capabilities, in this chapter, we focus on cognitive resilience and emphasise the collective level of analysis.
