ABSTRACT

A central tenant of this text is thinking about how we can engage with everyone equally and effectively, and to do this requires consideration of how we engage with young children. This chapter presents the argument that we need to think about the developmental stage of the child rather than their age alone. It discusses how we overcome the barriers for engaging younger children, including the issues of capacity and consent. It provides a useful overview of the topic, and argues that we can engage with younger children – we just have to think about how we do so.
