ABSTRACT

For services to truly capture the views of service users and parent/carers a strong consideration of equality and diversity is required. This chapter explores the thoughts of some young people as to how we can better engage with the communities they identify with. It does, however, start with a discussion of intersectionality – acknowledging that the chapter does not and cannot provide a guide to how to engage with everyone successfully. It focuses on the LGBTQ+ community, young male’s, and the BIPOC community as examples of groups that can be particularly ‘hard to reach’ or are ‘seldom heard’ in mental health services.
