ABSTRACT

Without understanding how we can conceptualise participation, how can we do it well? Chapter 2 explores the theory behind children’s participation. It starts with a discussion on how we can define children’s participation, which then leads into a discussion participation as a ‘right’. It then takes time to present and critique existing models of participation before briefly highlighting some of the benefits of participation. The author ends the chapter by presenting their development of a framework for thinking about children’s participation which could help to inform the future development of a theory surrounding the topic.
