ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 is a chapter written by the Midlands Young Advisors – a group of young people who provide consultancy and advocacy services relating to children and young people’s participation in mental health services. The chapter begins with an explanation of who they are and what they do, before leading into a discussion of what it means to involve children and young people in their own care. Their chapter focuses on the concept of ‘person-centred care’ and what this means for participation. They present a model for thinking about person-centred care, which they term the ‘cog model’. The discussion then turns to tools relating to person-centred care to provide a practical insight for professionals as to how to apply the theory in the chapter.
