ABSTRACT

Involving Children and Young People (CYP) and parent/carers in service development is part of the statutory duty to involve, as outlined in the introduction to this text. Therefore, it is critical to explore how we do this. This chapter explored how we define service development and proposes a definition of ‘continuous service development’, it then discuses examples from the author’s experience working in service development – highlighting the benefits and challenges of involvement. It also includes the perspective on a expert-by-experience and discusses their experiences of being involved in service development. Finally, it leaves readers with key things to think about when it comes to doing continuous service development.
