ABSTRACT

Curriculum has always been a public project. This year, 2022 marks the 100-year anniversary of the foundation of the Irish state. This chapter calls for a renewed look at curriculum as a public project to focus on what happens in the classroom as a public space where young people can come to be in terms of their individual and social potential. This is essential to our future where we live in interconnection with all living and non-living things. To achieve this, it calls on teachers as professionals to plan for and enact transformative ethical-relational pedagogy where young people can learn to live in and with the world as individuals and as a community. Here the student impacts on society, politics and economy from within the classroom, from within themselves as a public space.
