ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the use and function of biomedical technology. While biomedical technology has been essential for more rich inclusion of people with disabilities in society, biomedical technology tends to focus on the maintenance or restoration of normal function. Stramondo argues that multifunctionalism needs to be embraced: the use of medical technology for effective functioning that does not necessarily aim to reproduce or mimic normal functioning.
