ABSTRACT

The spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world and the World Health Organization declaring it as a pandemic have posed a threat to the public health system globally. Although data on the relationship between COVID-19 infection and complications in pregnant women are limited, there are studies that have reported that pregnant women are susceptible and more prone to be affected by the virus. Experiencing a pandemic for the first time and getting pregnant too with the first child can add to the stressors in one’s life which is an unimaginable experience; not only does one have to worry about the different aspects associated with pregnancy, but at the same time, one also has to protect oneself from the virus. This pandemic pregnancy has definitely been daunting and has caused fear, anxiety, uncertainty and confusion, but at the same time, it has taught the importance of being resilient, practising gratitude and cherishing the present. The author successfully gave birth to her son. She has been resilient and strong and though times are still uncertain and believes that she is now well equipped to experience the journey of motherhood.
