ABSTRACT

At the end of October 2021, the COVID-19 curve in the North-Eastern states of India was showing a downward trend. The government COVID-19 dashboard of the states showed that the total active cases in Mizoram was 8080, Assam, 3,857; Manipur, 987; Meghalaya, 639; Nagaland, 243; Arunachal Pradesh, 132; and Tripura, 98 cases. Timely preparedness and the vaccination drive appear to be grounds for the muted spread of COVID-19 in the North East region as compared to the rest of the country. The goal of any vaccine is always to reduce death and severe illness and the COVID-19 vaccines are doing just that; it is bringing the death curve down, preventing severe symptoms of the disease and helping people evade hospitalisation. Given the present circumstances, the future remains uncertain in spite of the advances in vaccinations, medical care and community preparedness, such that one still wonders if the battle against COVID-19 has progressed to the end game.
