ABSTRACT

This sentimental poem, depicting the idyllic nature of a happy and Christian home, was published in The Ladies’ Cabinet of Fashion, Music and Romance, in March 1840. This British journal was an illustrated monthly women’s magazine aimed at the middle-class market. It was first published by a mother and daughter Beatrice and Margaret de Courcy in 1832. Like many other similar publications, it included extracts from novels, short stories, reviews, aphorisms, songs, philosophical discussions, and detailed descriptions of the latest clothing fashions from London and Paris.
