ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses a Black woman doctoral student's experience of dealing with tragedy within her family and country. Grounding her journey in the traditions and culture of Haiti, the author offers her perspective on navigating global tragedy, and ways to remain true to your authentic lived experiences and grounding these experiences in research. The author discusses the impact of a national tragedy and how she utilized her mental health scholarship in her doctoral journey to reconcile feelings of trauma with meaningful work to help her community.
