ABSTRACT

Bion described a deep tension between a basic need for emotional knowledge and the human tendency to avoid meaning, because it brings painful realizations: the conflict between feeling emotions or getting rid of them. The primary pre-conflict love—hate area, linked to the knowledge of the object and reality, poses the dilemma between ambivalent vivid emotions and its absence. At the primitive levels of construction of the experience, there appears in the first place the dialectic between feeling and thinking emotions or getting rid of them, evacuating emotional experience. It follows a brief perspective of different ideas contained in the book.
