ABSTRACT

The narrative of food and its journey from farm to table is dependent on a wide range of technologies some of which are explored in the contexts of rich and poor countries. Viewing through the lenses of social justice and stewardship enables a consideration of malnutrition and sustainable food production. The pedagogy required to engage learners in secondary school with each stage of the narrative is discussed. Given that the narrative of food is evolving in the context of the conflicting requirements to feed the world and at the same time eliminate global warming, future scenarios that address this conflict are considered. Concluding remarks provide a brief overview of the chapter and consider the limitations of the chapter and propose the engagement of stakeholders in further curriculum development.
