ABSTRACT

Movies of texts have been traditionally viewed as a “reward” for reading the book rather than as a vehicle for meaningful learning (Selman & Testa, 2019, pp. 1–2). Challenging this approach, this chapter describes how the YA Novel to Film class can become the YA Novel and Film class, prioritizing both the novel and film as text and aiming to develop students’ aesthetic, academic, and ethical sensibilities for what they read and watch.
