ABSTRACT

The existing economic crisis in the Colombian agricultural sector worsened due to COVID-19, which has led them to seek solutions that allow them to achieve sustainable development. On this occasion, the case of the farmer’s organisation ‘Building the Future of the Jardín municipality, Antioquia’, is presented, who sought in tourism a way to overcome these challenges in a sustainable way. Based on this case, this chapter seeks to determine if community tourism is a sustainable development strategy for agricultural communities post-COVID-19? In this research, an accompaniment to the process of construction of tourist products was carried out within the Participation Action Research methodology to later analyse if the proposed tourist products will be accepted in the market and the possible economic benefit for this community. Following the analysis of the political, legal, environmental, commercial, financial and social aspects in the case of the farmer’s organisation ‘Building the Future of the Jardín municipality, Antioquia’, it can be concluded that agrotourism can be an excellent alternative to supplement the income of farmers and that this case should be used as an example to implement this type of program in other municipalities.
