Introduction

This chapter considers the growing population of graduate and professional students at colleges and universities in the U.S., as well as some of the challenges faced by graduate and professional students in higher education. This chapter also examines research on student-faculty experiences in graduate and professional education, and the roles of faculty members, particularly through student-faculty interactions and engagement, in fostering student success for these important populations of students.
