ABSTRACT

This chapter enables readers to identify key developmental milestones in the areas of nutrition and physical movement for early years learners. It summarises the research evidence in the sector, and outlines opportunities for educators to support healthy eating and physical activity in education and care settings. This is supported by several key resources, including toolkits and standards produced by the World Health Organization that emphasise the important of healthy eating and physical activity programmes in these settings. The chapter include several key questions that educators can consider when planning healthy eating and physical activity programmes and describes examples of incorporating it into routine education and care. Lastly the chapter provides the types of implementation support needed to facilitate this and a list of resources that may be useful to support practice.
