ABSTRACT

Engaging in evidence-based practice and action research supports professional learning and achieving professional renewal for educators. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a process of educator engagement with emerging evidence to implement best practice. EBP involves the assembling and analysis of relevant data and research, which is then used to improve teaching and learning. Action research involves educators in a process of both action and inquiry, with the primary goal being to generate change. Evidence-based practice and action research enable educators to be both leaders and professionals in an age of increased accountability, as pedagogical decisions are based on current best practice in conjunction with a cycle of inquiry and critical reflection.
