ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the form and shape of education studies in an international context. It provides an original insight that looks at examples of equivalent areas or programmes of study from around the world to assist the reader in understanding how the study of education and education studies programmes appears outside the UK academic context. The chapter explores the cases of Portugal, Spain, Chile, USA, Canada, Australia, and China and offers a comparison with UK programmes of education studies. Although initial teacher training courses are predominant in faculties of education in the UK and internationally, there are some university courses that take a broad approach to the study of the different aspects of education and contribution from key disciplines.
