ABSTRACT

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with a focus on inclusiveness and sustainability, will be the biggest event ever organized in France. Locating competitions mostly in Greater Paris but also in twelve departments, they aim to engage the whole country to insure a shared legacy in sports, health, soft power, tourism, and culture. They will showcase French heritage worldwide and provide Paris’s northern suburbs with new transport and mixed neighbourhoods. French public opinion has generally been positive towards these opportunities, but the context remains uncertain. After a presentation of the bid, the context and Games’ governance, the chapter focuses on the urban dimension of the event before exploring its urban legacy to analyse how the mega ‘eventization’ changes cities and the way we approach them.
