ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a deep look into the financing of the IOC and the Olympic Games as well as its evolution from 2000 until today. As the number of stakeholders for Olympic Games is immense it is very difficult to identify the winners and losers of the Games. Therefore, this chapter first identifies the many stakeholders involved. Thereafter it examines the economic development of the Games from 1896 until today. Even though there are different winners and losers for each edition of the Games, this chapter provides a fair list of those that usually win or lose.
