ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to analyse how the flourishing of an ‘elite’ group of private institutions has been influencing the Indian higher education sector. The main focus will be on the considerable academic, financial, and administrative autonomy enjoyed by these institutions, and how this autonomy is reflected in addressing technological challenges, improving campus diversity, channelising corporate philanthropy, building and maintaining international and industrial partnerships, ensuring job placements, offering relevant curriculum, offering internationally competitive salaries to faculty, and attracting the best talents from premier government institutions in the country and from abroad.
