ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War have had devastating effects on the economies of Africa. However, the reporting of this in the African business press has tended to focus only on the local context of this impact with very little, or no, consideration of the global context. This has led to a distorted and often incomplete picture of what is really going on. Drawing on a case study from Sierra Leone, this chapter explores the extent to which journalists in this country used, or failed to use, global business journalism in their reporting of the impact of these events on the economy of Sierra Leone.
