ABSTRACT

This chapter points out the shocking neglect to deal with trafficking. Ironically, missing girls and women during disasters are nowhere accounted in much of the government data. Trafficking of vulnerable persons, especially women and young girls, is directly proportional to the disasters. Taking note of the inadequacy of laws to deal with various forms of human trafficking that take place during disasters in India, the Disaster Management Act, 2005, along with constitutional interpretation by the Supreme Court can show the way towards combating human trafficking of women and young girls in the context of disasters.
