ABSTRACT

This book is about the journey of the Integrated approach to Technology in Education (ITE) initiative, to share the learnings, the challenges and what worked. ITE has impacted over 400,000 students, 900 government schools and over 4,000 government teachers in 8 states of India. This chapter begins with a description of the evolution of information and communications technology (ICT) in public schooling in India, from its inception in 1984 to the present time in 2021, and the contrasting ITE pedagogy that integrates authentic project-based learning (PBL) into the curriculum is introduced. The chapter concludes with an overview of the chapters that illustrate the experiences of students and teachers from rural and urban areas and across diverse social settings, and the associated professional development and related research.
