ABSTRACT

Training, in any discipline, is a journey towards competence. However, it also risks overconfidence, including an awareness of when we are out of our comfort zone. A patient (Peter) is described, who is a referral from Psychiatry: with possible schizo-affective disorder, and also a recent history of agitated behaviour, troubling the nurses in his unit. Was there something neurological at play? On assessment, Peter performed poorly on several measures of executive function, and also on some measures of recent memory. A discussion with the supervisor leads to a new perspective on the case, and discovering a new literature.
