ABSTRACT

Typically, our neurological patients have clear cognitive impairment, which gradually already reveals itself during the bedside assessment. It is unusual to see anybody without some form of brain injury or illness. Dan is a technician, self-employed, who says he has had a stroke. He presents normally, and produces a profile of scores that are all within a normal range. However, the neurosurgeon later produces some information that gives a new perspective to the case. It opens the question of what might underpin ‘normal’ performance.
